Dependency Hell
A downloadable game for Linux
DEPENDENCY HELL
$ sudo apt install everything
You're the package courier of tuxford. Every house wants software, and nothing installs alone.
A house asks for firefox. Firefox needs libgtk and openssl, libgtk needs glib, and they all need libc unless the house already has it. Grab crates from the three delivery-truck mirrors, carry up to four at a time, and get each package and its missing dependencies to the door before the timer runs out. Dependencies install first.
Miss a timer and the package breaks. Three broken installs and the kernel panics. Every 5 finished installs, fsck repairs one. Orders pile up, apps get heavier (steam needs 8 crates), and after a while crows start diving to steal your top crate. Sprint to dodge them, because packet loss is real.
HOW TO PLAY
- Order cards (top right) show what each house is still missing. Chips fill in once the crate is in your bag.
- Crates that any order still needs glow yellow at the mirrors.
- Stand at a house's door to install. Houses remember what they already have.
- Your bag holds 4 crates, and each one slows you down a bit. Q drops the top crate.
CONTROLS
WASD / Arrows: move
Shift: sprint

RUNNING ON LINUX
Download dependency-hell-linux.tar.gz, then:
tar xzf dependency-hell-linux.tar.gz
cd dependency-hell
./run.sh
It opens in your default browser and works fully offline, with no install, Wine or Electron. ./run.sh --window gives you a Chromium app window, and ./run.sh --install adds a menu entry. You can also double-click index.html, or play it right here in the browser.
