Karak Street

KARAK STREET · شارع الكرك

A year at a tea stall. Every dirham needs a job.

You've just taken over a tiny karak kiosk on Sikka 7, a Gulf street of shuttered shops, palm trees and pigeons. You have AED 4,500 saved, a shared flat, four post-dated rent cheques with your landlord, and a promise to send your sister's university fees home. Twelve months. Can you make it work?

EVERY MONTH

- Payday: bills are taken automatically, then you give the rest of your wallet a job. Fill jars for supplies, the rent pot, emergency savings, an index fund, your family goal and fun. Cash you leave unassigned leaks away.

- The day: brew karak, saffron karak and Chips Oman sandwiches, serve the queue and the drivers who pull up and honk. Serve fast for tips, don't let cups go cold, don't run out of supplies. The day you play stands for the whole month (×30).

- Month end: your ledger shows sales, costs and profit, then interest, investments and rent cheques, and a bar shows where your money went.

- Life happens: a "0% interest" phone deal, a 40%-off TV, Ramadan giving and Eid eidiya, an OTP scam, a market crash, a friend's "guaranteed" scheme. Your choices come back in later months.

WHAT YOU'LL LEARN BY PLAYING (no quizzes)

Budgeting, sinking funds, emergency funds, revenue vs profit, pricing and demand, return on investment, compound interest on debt, buy-now-pay-later, fixed-markup instalments (murabaha), investing through ups and downs, and spotting scams. Each Money Note unlocks only when that thing happens to you.
